Easter Family Day

Introduce your little ones to Swedish Easter traditions. Children can make Swedish Easter crafts, dress up as Easter witches, and participate in an egg hunt.

Our egg hunt is in two heats; one for children aged 2-5 and the second for children aged 6-12 at 3:15 pm and 3:30 pm, respectively. Egg hunts will take place outside, rain or shine.

ExtrABBAganza!

Break out your bell bottoms and platform shoes! Celebrate the iconic music of ABBA at the American Swedish Historical Museum. DJ Drake will spin the throwbacks as everyone lets out their inner Dancing Queen in the Museum's Grand Hall. Highlights of the evening will include a dancing and costume contest and live drag performances by Miss Troy, Scarlett Masters, Elieen O'Brennan, and Amerie Jameson! 70’s attire is encouraged.

Radically Marimekko

For over 70 years, Marimekko has infused art into the clothes and interiors of our everyday lives. Rising from the ashes of WWII, Marimekko’s colorful fabrics and openness to experimentation brought together the textile traditions of Finland with innovative and bold designs based on the changing tastes and aesthetics of the contemporary art world.

Hemslöjd Workshop: Introduction to Flemish Weaving

The American Swedish Historical Museum is excited to host a new hemslöjd workshop: Introduction to Flemish  Weaving presented by Elisabeth Jönsson Brown!

In this five-session workshop, students will learn traditional Flemish weaving techniques used throughout Sweden. Participants will make a 6.5”x5” sampler to practice every technique used in this style. The workshop meets at the Museum each Tuesday for five weeks (January 10th through February 7th) from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Semlor and a Movie

Treat yourself to a rich semla (a cream and almond paste-filled Swedish pastry) with a cup of hot coffee and a Swedish movie. Semlor are often eaten before lent, the Swedish version of “Fat Tuesday.” Event tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Ticket price includes one semla- additional semlor are $6 each. Pre-registration closes on 2/10 at 4 pm but walk-ins are welcome at the event on 2/11!

Pea Soup Supper

The perfect way to shake off the cold is with a hot bowl of Swedish pea soup at the American Swedish Historical Museum. Ärtsoppa is the traditional Thursday night supper in Sweden during the winter that dates back to the medieval period. 

The ASHM Pea Soup Dinner is served with sharp Swedish cheese, crispbread, and Swedish pancakes for dessert with coffee. Cash bar available throughout the evening. You do not want to miss this delightful meal! 

Toddler Time: Friendship Fabric

Experience the wonderful world of fiber arts! This month at Toddler Time, families will explore our exhibition, Weaving A New Chapter, and learn about the meaningful textiles immigrant families brought from Sweden. We will read “Wild Rose’s Weaving” by Ginger Churchill and practice fine motor skills with our weaving activities.

Toddler Time is free for members and $5 per non-member child. Accompanying adult is free.
