LENAPE AND SWEDES ON THE DELAWARE

Scouts will learn about the history, lifestyle, and culture of the local Native American tribe of our region and the important relationship the Lenni Lenape had with colonial Swedes. This program works towards Indian lore and learning local history requirements through museum exploration and hands-on projects.

AMAZING WORLD OF ART

The American Swedish Historical Museum is home to beautiful paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and murals and is the perfect atmosphere for Cub Scouts at each level to learn principles of art. After touring the museumís collection for inspiration, Scouts will create their own masterpieces by mixing paint, working with clay, creating stencil art, and painting on canvas.

GENEALOGY DETECTIVES

History shapes who we are today. This program helps Scouts explore both local history and that of their family heritage. Scouts will create a family tree, learn about immigration, and practice basic methods of genealogy research to develop a greater understanding of previous generations.

COOL COLLECTIONS

Where better to earn a collection badge than a museum! Come and explore the interesting, fun, and sometimes downright weird collection of the American Swedish Historical Museum. Scouts will learn how collections can be organized and start a collection of their own.

VIKING EXPLORATION

Take a journey back in time to the age of the Vikings (800-1100 AD). Scouts will examine a 1,000 year-old sword, dress up in Viking armor, and use hands-on artifacts to discover more about this often misunderstood culture, and how we are still impacted by it today. Highlights include analyzing rune stones and playing Viking chess (hnefatafl).
