Virtual Hemslöjd Workshop: Dala Horse Painting

Dala Horses
date(s)
time
10:00 am - 12:30 pm

The Dalahäst or Dala Horse is perhaps one of the most iconic symbols of Sweden. These hand-carved and painted wooden figures were historically a children’s toy but over time evolved into iconic folk-art from the Dalarna province.  A symbol of welcome and friendship, Dala Horses have become collectible and come in a wide range of sizes and colors.

In partnership with the Bishop Hill Heritage Association, ASHM is excited to offer a virtual Dala Horse painting workshop! Artist Carol Ann Curry will discuss the history of Dala Horse craftsmanship and teach participants the intricate kurbits style of painting used in traditional decoration. The Zoom workshop includes a large hand-carved wooden horse, paint, brushes, and step-by-step instruction. No artistic experience is necessary! Craft kits can be picked up from the Museum or mailed right to your home ($15 shipping fee applies). The workshop is $70 for members and $75 for nonmembers. The registration deadline for mail orders is March 18th. Spaces are limited, be sure to register early!

This event is now sold out. Please check back for future hemslöjd opportunities.
